Hades - Alone Walkyng

Hades were formed in Bergen, Norway in 1992 by former Immortal guitarist Jørn Inge Tunsberg and ex-Dark drummer Remi. Alone Walkyng was recorded in 1993 and that same year Jørn Inge Tunsbergv was convicted, along with Varg Vikernes for the burning of a Norwegian church in Åsane, which led to a prison sentence. This demo was later released on CD in 1996 but the band had to change their name to Hades Almighty for some legal reasons. This demo is awesome and actually better quality than a lot of the stuff coming out of Norway at the time. Rather than describe the sound you should check out the Youtube video bellow and hear for yourself.

Den Saakaldte - All Hail Pessimism

This is one of the better Norwegian Black Metal releases in recent years and features members and ex members of Pantheon I, 1349, Dødheimsgard and Spiral Architect to name a few. Well IMO this band is better then all of those bands and manages to breath life into a particular style of black metal that has been pretty stale for a while by infusing some new and exciting elements such as horns and other stuff like that. Ok ok so that didn't sound very convincing but I swear its really good stuff! The only thing that I wish was done differently was the production of the drums but its definitely still listenable but check it out for yourself below...

A Forest Of Stars - The Corpse Of Rebirth (2008)

Stunning Atmospheric Black Metal from the United Kingdom. A Forest of Stars plays a unique brand of Black Metal that may appeal to fans of Wolves In The Throne Room or Altar of Plagues but A Forest of Stars has an Eerie and sometimes actually frightening vibe at times that the aforementioned bands lack. Most of the tension comes from the vocals which at times remind me of "Only Theater of Pain" era Christian Death and maybe even some comparisons to Lifelover. Violin adds a lot of dimension to the music and is done very well with this bands music and almost adds an early My Dying Bride feel at times which is great for me as I am a fan. The production is clear but has enough vibe and character to satisfy purists of the genre and the songs lengths are quite long but never get boring. The first song "God" is simply perfect and one of the best songs I have heard in the last couple years.

Horrendous - The Chills (2012)

Yet another sick find by Dark Descent records.  I gotta hand it to Matt, he's quickly assembled one hell of a roster and he continues to turn out these awesome old school influenced bands who have sworn to the ways of dark and dreary death metal.  Horrendous are really good and should make waves amongst the people who are crazy for this kind of shit... they don't sound much like a US based band at all... its quite finnish and swedish.  You can snag one of these here.

Manilla Road - The Deluge (1986)(Reissue 2011)

Fuck yes!  I love reissues.  I had a saved search for the ultra rare digipak version of the album and I sadly watched it sell for hundreds of dollars when it would pop up... major props to Shadow Kingdom Records for the opportunity to own the slab of classic american heavy metal magic.  If you aren't familiar with the mighty Manilla Road's brand of stripped down, riffed up, fantasy laden metal, this is a great album to start with.  If you like Brocas Helm, Cirith Ungol, Slough Feg, Ghost, Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Iron Maiden etc, grab this immediately.

Regurgitation - Clitoraldectomy (Demo 2002)(Reissue 2011)

Finally!  A proper release of Regurgitation's now classic 2002 demo Clitoraldectomy sees the light of day.  This is far more technical than Tales Of Necrophilia... I would say it sounds a bit more like Necrotic Disgorgement, who they would eventually morph into.  High quality brutal deathgrind for depraved gore lunatics.  SICKNESS!  You can scoop one of these bad lads for $8 from Comatose.

Utumno - Across The Horizon (1993)(Reissue 2010)

Deluxe remastered version of this absolute classic Swedish Death Metal ep recorded at the famed Sunlight Studios... sounds fucking killer!  The vocal performance by Jonas Stålhammar (who now sings for the The Crown) is stellar... I love the story song kind of lyrics to The Light Of Day... impressive stuff!  Features the Light Of Day single from 91 as bonus tracks.  If you like Crematory, Darkified, Entombed, Grave, etc, you will flip for this.  If you want one, plenty of sellers have it on ebay.
